Compact parking

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Compact parking is a pilot project of the German Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), with the help of which the parking space capacity for trucks at rest areas is to be increased by means of telematic control. The federal government has invested four million euros in the pilot project.

principle

In contrast to standard parking , in which each vehicle has its own parking space , with compact parking several vehicles are parked one behind the other and thus form a row of parking spaces. So that the vehicles parked in a row of parking spaces do not block each other when they continue to drive, the vehicles are sorted according to departure time. The vehicle that leaves earlier is always in front. The marking of the departure time in the row of parking spaces is carried out by dynamic and easily understandable displays above the row of parking spaces.

It is not necessary for the truck drivers to inform the system of their actual departure time. The calculation of the departure times for each row of parking spaces is based on a newly developed control method. This is based on the legally prescribed driving and rest times. The control uses sensors to calculate a demand-dependent time available and uses telematics to distribute the departure times across all rows of parking spaces. If there is particularly high demand for departure times (that is, the respective rows of parking spaces are occupied), the control system offers additional rows of parking spaces with this departure time. Departure times that are not requested can be overridden by the control. The system provides separate rows of parking spaces for short-term parkers.

When using the system, truck drivers are responsible for selecting a suitable row of parking spaces and must also adhere to the selected departure time. It is possible to find out about free capacities in advance on the Internet and to register for a parking stand. The system is explained in nine languages. In addition, a parking attendant is available on site as a contact person. This also has information material in nine languages.

Installation

Germany's first plant for compact parking was at the rest stop Jura West in Velburg at the A 3 built ( location ) and officially opened after a trial operation on 19 February 2016 in operation. The system had previously been in trial operation for a few months. The conversion increased the number of truck parking spaces from 66 to 105. The total costs for this amounted to around two million euros.
