Proof of competence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A competency certificate is a document that shows the personal skills of a person. It can be in the form of a grid, text, diagram or a mixture of these. The competencies can be broken down into the four areas of technical , methodological , social and personal competence .

Written evidence based on pedagogically supported procedures

Written proof of competence is usually developed for young people in cooperation with a mentor. Multi-step pedagogically supported procedures with a competence assessment procedure are essential for this instrument . Examples of this are the portfolio NRW (short: APF), the culture competence certificate and the international competence certificate . This is written documentation in which, in specific situations, it is described which competencies were shown by the young person concerned. The aim of this proof of competence is to support young people in entering professional life. They should expand the possibility of self-portrayal, in that the evidence in a job interview can be an occasion to talk about one's own abilities and to credibly substantiate the statements with the evidence. In addition, the self-confidence of young people should be strengthened by making young people aware of their abilities and strengths and learning to formulate them.

The proof of competence in culture is an education pass. It is given to young people from the age of 12 who actively participate in artistic and cultural-educational offers. The APF competence certificate is usually awarded in schools from grade 8 or 9 to pupils who have actively participated in school projects such as internships , acting , improvisational theater , crafts , annual work , stay abroad , etc. The International Competence Certificate was developed by the Specialized Agency for International Youth Work of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is aimed at young people who are involved in international projects. All of the above-mentioned proofs of competence are evidence of the individual personal, social, methodological and artistic competencies that the young people demonstrated and further developed during the project.

All competence certificates are created together with the young person. There is an exchange between the young person and the project manager about the individual strengths, learning experiences and effects of their own artistic, professional and social actions. There is a written documentation in which each situation is described in which the competencies were demonstrated.

Evidence generated online

Online proof of competence is a list of competencies in a certificate or description with or without text modules. This should represent evidence of voluntary commitment. Voluntarily committed citizens can individually document their own social commitment and make it visible to the outside world. In this way, they can also use their commitment to society for themselves personally, for example with applications. The skills specified online by the user are documented on a certificate. The organization confirms the content by signature.

Criticism of this type of evidence is that it says little about specific competencies of a personal or social nature. Some of these certificates list competencies, but do not offer an associated measurement or accounting system.

  • Proof of competence in the Bavarian Youth Ring
  • Proof of competence via voluntary work in the youth association

Accounting procedures

Another group of evidence are accounting procedures for professional orientation . The procedures are biographically oriented or come from the field of aptitude diagnostics . You work with the method of self-reflection . The user deals with his own activities, learning experiences, preferences and skills. The aim of this competence assessment procedure is to support people's personal responsibility through self-reflection.
