history

Before 1462, the Ottomans built a seraglio in what is now Sarajevo ( Bosnian saraj , Ottoman سرای İA Sarāy ) as the governor's residence, which gave the city its name. In the history of Sarajevo, a total of three serailals were built, all of which fell victim to the flames. The building, completed under Topal Šerif Osman Pascha in 1869, was the fourth and last seraglio and was given the name konak ( Ottoman قوناق İA ḳonaḳ ).
