Kong Yingda ( Chinese  孔穎達  /  孔颖达 , W.-G. K'ung Ying-ta ; 574–648) was a Confucian scholar of the Sui and Tang dynasties , who is known for his Wujing zhengyi五 经 正义, a work to the Wujing 五 经, d. H. the Five Canonical Books, as which the works Zhouyi周易, Shangshu尚书, Maoshi毛诗, Chunqiu春秋 and Liji礼记 have been called since the Han period .

Kong Yingda was born in 574 in Hengshui (Jizhou 冀州), in the state of the Northern Qi Dynasty of the Northern Dynasties .

Wujing zhengyi

His Wujing zhengyi五 经 正义 / 五 經 正義 ("Correct Meaning of the Five Classics") became the standard curriculum for the Imperial Official Examinations and formed the basis for all future official commentaries on the Wujing (Five Canonical Books) .

The grave of Kong Yingda ( 孔颖达墓 ) in the municipality Taocheng the prefecture-level city Hengshui in the Chinese province of Hebei is on the list of monuments of Hebei Province .

He is buried with the Tang emperor Taizong in the Zhaoling mausoleum .
