Roadway of the Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke

The Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke is the southernmost of the four Würzburg road bridges over the Main . The 420-meter-long bridge crosses the four-lane southern city ring and footpaths and bicycle paths on both sides of the carriageway.

location

The Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke is located in the south of Würzburg at Mainkilometer 255.06. It connects the Sanderau and Frauenland districts on the right-hand side of the Main with the Heidingsfeld district on the left bank. To the right of the Main, it only spans the green spaces on the bank, while on the left side of the Main it also runs over the tram tracks and Mergentheimer Strasse. It is particularly important for residents of the southern parts of the city and for transit traffic on the ring road, as the next road bridge to the south is around 10 kilometers away and the Lion Bridge to the north is already in the inner city area.

Immediately south of the Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke is the double-track railway bridge for the railway lines from Würzburg to Stuttgart ( KBS 780 ) and Treuchtlingen ( KBS 920 ).

description

Construction of the bridge began in 1965 and after two years of construction it was completed in 1967, the year Konrad Adenauer died. This makes it the penultimate new bridge in Würzburg to date. It was initially designed for a daily traffic load of 25,000 to 30,000 vehicles, meanwhile the frequency of use has doubled to up to 55,000 vehicles. The 420-meter-long structure made of prestressed concrete consists of four fields that are slightly haunched above the river pillars . The passage height on the river is 6.80 m.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, the bridge had to be constantly renewed, so by 2002 the bridge caps, the bridge bearings , the coupling joints and the drainage system were modernized or replaced, and small repairs were carried out on the road surface for around 3.5 million euros . From June to September 2007 the lanes in the direction of Heidingsfeld and from spring 2008 those in the opposite direction were completely renewed.
