Konrad Gauckler

Konrad Gauckler (born August 3, 1898 in Nuremberg ; † February 25, 1983 ) was a German naturalist. His botanical author abbreviation is " Gauckler ".

Life

After attending secondary school and doing military service, he first did a pharmaceutical internship. From 1922 he studied botany, chemistry, geography, geology, physics and zoology at the University of Erlangen . In 1924 he passed the state pharmaceutical examination and in 1926 received his license to practice medicine.

From 1927 he was a scientific assistant at the Erlangen Botanical Institute. After receiving his doctorate in 1928, he passed the state examination as a teacher of chemistry and biology. After his habilitation in 1938, he continued to work as a teacher and at the same time from 1948 as a lecturer and from 1955 as an adjunct professor at the University of Erlangen. At the Nuremberg vocational school he taught as a senior teacher until his retirement and as a professor in Erlangen almost until the end of his life.

Konrad Gauckler was one of the founders of modern plant sociology and biogeography in Bavaria. His habilitation thesis Steppenheide and Steppenheidewald der Franconian Alb in plant-sociological, ecological and geographical considerations is considered a milestone in the recording of vegetation contexts. Gauckler's importance as a pioneer of Bavarian plant geography is also significant .

In later years Gauckler made his way through numerous publications to the capacity in the field of regional studies of Franconia . His hand-drawn images of the distribution of plant and animal species were characteristic of him. In addition to the importance of the individual species, the investigation of the respective dependencies was always a special concern of his.
