Konrad Gilges

Konrad Gilges (born February 13, 1941 in Cologne ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the German Bundestag .

After attending Catholic elementary school , Gilges trained as a tiler until 1959 . As a recognized conscientious objector , he did not have to do military service and worked as a tiler journeyman until 1970. He had already joined the SPD in 1960 and worked from 1970 to 1973 as youth secretary, then until 1979 as federal chairman of the Socialist Youth of Germany - Die Falken . From 1977 to 1979 he was also chairman of the German Federal Youth Association .

In the 1980 federal election , Gilges was elected to the German Bundestag, to which he was a member until 2002 . He was always directly elected in the Cologne III constituency. As a member of IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt , he became chairman of the DGB group in Cologne, Leverkusen , Erft in 1988 .
