The German Federal Youth Association (DBJR) is a working group of German youth associations . The association, based in Berlin , was founded on October 3rd, 1949 in Altenberg. The focus of his work is on the interests of children and young people in Germany .

activity

The DBJR represents the interests of young people vis-à-vis parliament and the government as well as vis-à-vis European institutions. According to the statutes, it influences youth policy and the development of youth legislation. He also works in the interests of young people in numerous youth education, youth welfare and youth work organizations. It makes positions of young people visible in public and in relation to science. It networks and strengthens the cooperation of its members. The tasks also include stimulating and promoting cooperation in European and international youth policy with youth organizations abroad.

Members

More than 50 member organizations work together in the Federal Youth Council. In addition to the 16 regional youth associations, there are 29 youth associations or umbrella structures as full members and seven affiliated associations. A total of around six million young people are organized in the DBJR. They are united by their commitment against militaristic, nationalistic, discriminatory and totalitarian tendencies. Children and young people are self-determined in the youth associations and youth rings. They take their own and diverse wishes, worries and interests as a basis, use their different skills and perspectives. There are denominational, ecological, cultural as well as union and humanitarian youth associations, workers' youth associations and scout associations.

In addition to the German Sports Youth and the Ring of Political Youth , the DBJR is represented in European and international contexts by the German National Committee for International Youth Work (DNK). In this context, for example, the UN youth delegates to the General Assembly are selected together with the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN).

In the field of European youth policy, the DBJR is involved as a member of the European Movement Network . In addition, the DBJR is the sponsor of the German youth representative program for the EU youth dialogue.

In addition, the DBJR organizes many bilateral youth exchanges. A particular focus is on youth encounters with France, Israel, Russia, the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Poland.

The chairmen are Lisi Maier , who is also the federal chairwoman of the Federation of German Catholic Youth , and Tobias Köck from the Solidarity Youth of Germany .
