The working group of central youth associations e. V. (AzJ for short) is a recognized non-profit organization of free youth welfare and was founded in 1959. This union of nationwide active children and youth associations currently consists of six member associations with equal rights. The association is affiliated with the German Federal Youth Association (DBJR) and a member of the German Youth Hostel Association (DJH), the Ludwigstein Youth Castle Association and the Forest in Not Foundation .

Structure and goals

Internally, the working group of central youth associations gives its member associations the opportunity to participate, regardless of their number of members. The structure of the association also takes into account the different starting situations of the associations. Since the individual associations are at home in very different areas of child and youth work, there is a broad network in this area that the member associations can use for internal exchange. Externally, the association also makes use of this complexity and represents the member associations vis-à-vis other major associations and politics. The main aim here is to convey existing knowledge and experience in the field of child and youth work. The AzJ is independent of parties and denominations.

The board of directors

This consists of a chairman and two deputies. The election takes place within the framework of the general assembly, at which each member association provides two representatives with voting rights. The term of office is two years.

Member associations

There are currently (as of April 2016) six member associations:

  • Bund der Kaufmannsjugend im DHV (BdK im DHV)
  • German philatelic youth
  • European Scouting Society St. George (EPG)
  • Paneuropean Youth Germany (PEJ)

The following associations were members of the AzJ in the past, but have left today, mostly because they were able to acquire direct membership in the Federal Youth Association or have joined another umbrella association:
