The DEJ was formed on October 4, 1951 from the previous youth section of the German Esperanto Association. The DEJ has been a registered association since January 1989 . At the end of 1990 there was a union with the Esperanto youth of the GDR.

From 1957/58 to 2008/09 she organized the annual New Year's Eve meeting “International Week”. Since 2009/10 she has been organizing the “Youth E-Week” (Junulara E-Semajno) together with the Polish Esperanto Youth . International week

The International Week ( Internacia Seminario ) was the annual meeting of the German Esperanto Youth. It took place from the turn of the year 1957/1958 to 2008/2009 every year over New Year's Eve in changing cities in Germany. The number of participants rose from 30–50 in the early years to 390 at the turn of the year 1990/1991 and then fell again.

In 2006/2007 the International Week at the Wewelsburg took place for the fiftieth time. The topic of the meeting was 50 years of IS - still young? . There were 209 young Esperanto speakers from over twenty countries. In 2008/2009 the last International Week took place in Biedenkopf .

Junulara E-Semajno (JES)

At the turn of the year 2009/2010 instead of the International Week and the Ago-Semajno , the Junulara E-Semajno (JES, "Youth E-Week") took place for the first time as a joint event for German and Polish Esperanto youth. The reason for the merger was the similarity of the meetings, both of which addressed a young audience. It was hoped, among other things, that the resources of both associations could be better used through close cooperation. Since then, the JES has taken place annually at the turn of the year, namely i. d. R. alternately in Poland and Germany. In contrast to this, the seventh JES took place at the turn of the year 2015/2016 in Eger , Hungary . The twelfth JES is planned for the turn of the year 2020/2021 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg .
