  2. promoting Jewish awareness among Jewish students and young Jewish adults as well as their solidarity with one another,
  3. the fight against all forms of racist, xenophobic, religious and political discrimination, in particular anti-Semitism,

  5. promoting solidarity with the State of Israel,
  6. promoting civil society engagement and strengthening democracy in Germany.

construction

The organs of the JSUD form the general assembly, the board of directors and the advisory board. The general assembly is the highest organ of the JSUD. It is responsible for the discharge of the board of directors, the election of the board members, the issuing of assignments to the board and the resolution of changes to the statutes. It takes place at least once a year during and at the location of the annual Jewish Youth Congress, organized by the Central Welfare Office of Jews in Germany (ZWST) and the Central Council of Jews in Germany Kdö.R. The board consists of five people and is composed of a president, two vice-presidents, a treasurer and a person responsible for public relations. The planning steps, actions and business of JSUD are decided in the board of directors. Its legislative term lasts two years. The President manages the business of JSUD and officially represents it externally. The vice-presidents represent the president if he is unable to attend. The treasurer submits a financial report to the general assembly. The managing director is responsible for the administration of the daily business. In the JSUD there are four thematic sections in which the fields of action are mapped: Policy, Regional, Society & Social Affairs and Public Relations. One member of the board of directors at a time leads a unit.

The current board (since March 2019) is represented by Mischa Ushakov (President), Anna Staroselski, Lars Umanski, Ruben Gerczikow and Avital Grinberg.

history

The JSUD was initiated on December 8, 2016 by a founding board. With its constitution, it succeeded the Federal Association of Jewish Students in Germany (BJSD) as a representative institution for Jewish students and young adults in Germany. The ordinary and public election of the board took place at the youth congress in Frankfurt am Main in March 2017.

The JSUD positions itself through statements and actions on political developments in public. Under the hashtag #wasabbassagt, activists of the JSUD started an "information campaign" in which they commented on the public appearances of the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas . The reason for this was a state visit by Abbas to Germany. The aim of the campaign was to draw attention to the differences - seen by the initiators - in the rhetoric of Abbas's appearances, according to which Abbas was oriented towards peace policy abroad, while his domestic political statements were agitational and conflict-oriented in character. Activists JSUD attended the lecture by Abbas at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for the two-state solution and contributed shirts with quotes were printed his speeches to the Palestinian people. On June 23, 2017, JSUD, together with other Jewish and political organizations, turned against Al-Quds Day in Berlin at a public rally .

In 2017, JSUD received the Developing Union Award from the World Union of Jewish Students for outstanding development within the Jewish student associations on an international level. A year later, in 2018, she received the Campaign of the Year Award from the World Union of Jewish Students for the # Afnee campaign. The campaign was directed against the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany .

The first nationwide Jewish Campus Week, organized by JSUD, will start in June 2019. At a total of eight locations in Germany, Jewish students organized programs that dealt with the Jewish religion, tradition and culture. Information stands, panel discussions, film evenings and informal meetings were offered at the universities. In cooperation with the Young Forum of the German-Israeli Society (DIG) and the free association of student bodies , the JSUD organized the first German-Israeli student conference (DISK) in Frankfurt am Main from June 15 to 16, 2019 . During the DISK, a non-partisan resolution against all anti-Semitism and against the Israel boycott movement Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) was passed with the political student associations Ring of Christian Democratic Students , Juso University Groups , Campusgrün and the Federal Association of Liberal University Groups .
