Scholarship and funding
ELES supports talented Jewish students and doctoral candidates with German citizenship - or from the EU area - during their training at universities, technical colleges as well as art and music colleges in Germany. The financial support is divided into two areas: student support and doctoral support. The monthly scholarships paid out to the scholarship holders are based on the BAföG rates. For example, the student grant recipients receive a grant of a maximum of EUR 649 per month and a flat-rate study fee of EUR 300 per month. The doctoral candidates receive a monthly grant of EUR 1,350 and a flat-rate research fee of EUR 100. ELES also supports study and research stays abroad.
In addition to financial security, ELES also offers its scholarship holders non-material support. Up to fourteen colleges for non-material support take place every year. The international academies in New York and Israel are a central component of the non-material support. The Benno Jacob and Bertha Pappenheim scholarships, with which the Studienwerk invites and supports future rabbis and cantors in cooperation with the Federal Foreign Office , also serve to promote international networking . Another program, which is organized in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation , is aimed specifically at young journalists. Within the framework of non-material support, ELES also cooperates with the Cusanuswerk , the Evangelisches Studienwerk Villigst , the Muslim Avicenna-Studienwerk , the Friedrich Ebert Foundation , the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and the German National Academic Foundation .
According to its own information, the Studienwerk has so far been able to sponsor more than 600 scholarship holders (as of November 2018). Of 581 scholarship holders in May 2017, 87% had a migration background.
