The BUNDjugend is the independent youth organization of the Federation for Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND). As an ecological youth association, BUNDjugend is committed to protecting nature and the environment and promoting child and youth work . It was founded in 1984 and, according to its own information, had around 85,000 members at the end of 2015. There are 16 regional associations, including the JBN ( youth organization Bund Naturschutz ) in Bavaria .

subjects

The range of topics ranges from practical nature conservation and political environmental work to international networking of young environmentalists . BUNDjugend is currently focusing on the topics of climate and energy, nutrition and agriculture, consumption and postal growth, ecological lifestyle ( ecological footprint ), and flight and migration.

Activities and projects

The BUNDjugend Bundesverband organizes changing projects on current topics of nature and environmental protection, which are aimed at children, adolescents and young adults. The “Climate Class” project is currently promoting climate protection in schools, while “Youth meets Experience” encourages an exchange of experience and knowledge between experienced opponents of nuclear power and young environmental activists. Furthermore, the projects “EXPERIENCE WORLD CONSCIOUSLY” and “A good life for everyone!” Focus on sustainable consumption and sufficiency. The nature diary competition, on the other hand, encourages children from 8 to 12 years to have practical experiences with nature every year.

Well-known projects that have already been completed are, for example, the press trip on a ship belonging to the Climate Pirates to the climate conference in Copenhagen in December 2009 or the bet from 1999, in which young people from all over Germany achieved the climate protection target stated by the federal government within a few months.

In addition to these projects, BUNDjugend is regularly present at various demonstrations and major events. One of the highlights every year is the We are fed up with it! which is supported jointly by BUNDjugend and other organizations. The event takes place every year in mid-January in Berlin.

In the regional associations, the focus is primarily on offering various children's and youth camps, as well as seminars and workshops. There are also various local groups for environmentalists at the local level.

Publications

Regular publications are the print magazine kriZ of the Baden-Württemberg regional association and the young page in the BUNDmagazin, which appears four times a year. The federal association also publishes information material and other publications at irregular intervals, for example the current brochures " Climate experiments ", "Growth without end" and " Oil change" or the climate cookbook that is published in bookshops .

Association structure

The federal association has its seat in Berlin and is led by the voluntary federal youth committee. The federal youth speakers are elected for two years at the federal delegates' assembly. This takes place annually in spring; five members are delegated from each national association. The state associations have a similar structure with their respective state youth boards or state youth leaderships ( LaJuLei ).

The BUNDjugend sends a representative as a fully entitled member to the respective board of the BUND at the federal as well as at the state level. In addition to working closely with BUND, BUNDjugend is also involved in the international Young Friends of the Earth network. In addition, BUNDjugend is a member of the globalization-critical Attac network and, together with other organizations, founded the youth alliance for future energy.

Logo until 2014

In 2014 the BUNDjugend updated its logo and all related materials. The content of the new logo is also based on the logo of the Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany : a globe symbolically encircled by two protective hands. The addition of the word Young Friends of the Earth indicates membership in the international network of the same name.
