The DGB-Jugend is an independent youth association with democratic decision-making structures from the bottom up. As a recognized independent agency for youth welfare , it fulfills an independent upbringing and educational mission in society . At the same time, the DGB youth is part of the German Federation of Trade Unions . Like the DGB, it is an umbrella organization and is federatively divided into (state) districts and districts or regions. Members of the DGB-Jugend are all young members of a DGB union according to the statutes of the member unions. Until 2004 the Villa Gans served as an education center for the DGB youth.

Member organizations of the DGB youth are the youth organizations of the current eight DGB member unions. These are:

tasks and goals
The main focus of the work of the DGB youth lies in political education , in the preliminary union work at schools and universities, in the networking of the member union youth as well as in the political representation of the union youth . In addition, the DGB-Jugend has its own offers for initial labor and social law advice for trainees, students as well as seminars or precarious employees / interns.
The DGB-Jugend campaigns for the improvement of living and working conditions, especially of young people, and for democratization in society, the economy and the state. This presupposes overcoming the discrimination against women and any racial disadvantage. Further objectives of the content-related work are the ecological restructuring of society, international solidarity and the commitment to peace and disarmament.
The current motto of the DGB youth is, StillLovingSolidarity
The DGB youth often takes part in demonstrations against the AfD or organizes them.

Decision-making bodies
The highest decision-making body of the DGB youth is the DGB Federal Youth Conference . It takes place every four years and is made up of elected delegates from the youth of the member unions who are entitled to vote, as well as advisory delegates from the DGB districts. The last DGB Federal Youth Conference took place in November 2017 in Berlin .
The DGB Federal Youth Committee is the highest body between the DGB Federal Youth Conferences . It is made up of one to three elected representatives from each DGB member union (depending on the number of young members), one elected representative from each of the DGB district youth committees, the DGB federal youth secretary and the board member responsible for youth work of the DGB (currently Elke Hannack ).
