Konrad Limmer (* around 1522 in Neustadt an der Orla ; † August 15, 1592 in Heilsbronn ) was a Protestant theologian , reformer and confessionalist .

Life

Limmer came from a family of craftsmen, his father was probably a cloth maker. On December 26, 1541 he was enrolled in Wittenberg , on January 20, 1543 he had already acquired the academic master's degree . He became a teacher at the Latin school in Zwickau and was brought to his hometown as rector in 1544. In this office he worked for eleven years until he was appointed pastor and superintendent at the request of the council .

Limmer had been married since 1544 and had a large family. The Duke initially did not want to appoint the 33-year-old superintendent, but eventually gave in. Although Limmer described himself as a student of Luther , he theologically represented the position of the Philippists . He rejected the Gnesiolutherans and openly declared himself in favor of the “Declaratio Victorini”. When the supporters of Matthias Flacius came to power in Thuringia in 1567 , Limmer had to resign.

When he was called to Ansbach as a preacher in 1570 , he left Neustadt. A new sphere of activity opened up for him in Franconia . In 1573 he contributed to the formulation of the “Norma doctrinae”, in which the tradition of Philipp Melanchthon resonated strongly. When Jacob Andreae came to Ansbach in 1576 as part of the agreement , he was rejected because he did not consider Melanchthon to be valid enough. Since 1578 abbot of Heilsbronn Monastery , Limmer was able to bring his educational experience to bear there. Here, too, he remained, what he always was, a follower of Melanchthon. But when the theological situation changed in Franconia too, he was deposed in 1589.
