Konrad Theodor Saenger (born February 19, 1869 in Königswinter , † April 25, 1945 in Berlin ) was a German statistician.

Life

Konrad Saenger was born as the son of the Protestant pastor Emil Saenger and his wife Maria, geb. Wehr, born in Königswinter. From 1880 he visited the Königl. High school in Neuwied , where he passed the Abitur exam in 1887. Saenger first studied theology for two semesters in Greifswald , then law and political science in Berlin, Bonn and Leipzig. As early as 1891 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Berlin .

He then entered the Prussian civil service: he began his civil service career in Danzig, which eventually led him to Berlin as a secretary, government councilor, and later as a lecturer in the Prussian Ministry of the Interior. In 1914 he succeeded Georg Evert as President of the Royal Prussian State Statistical Office . After the proclamation of the republic, he remained president of the authority now called the Prussian State Statistical Office until the National Socialists dissolved the office in 1934. Saenger was the last president of a 129-year-old traditional authority.

After the 76-year-old pensioner had removed his old military saber during the Battle of Berlin in April 1945 in order not to have any weapons in the house during a search, he was killed by artillery fire in front of the house of his neighbor, Pastor Martin Niemöller .
