Konrad Schoell

Konrad Schoell (born July 6, 1938 , † July 4, 2014 in Kassel ) was a German Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Schoell received his doctorate in 1966 at the University of Freiburg with the thesis Das Theater Samuel Becketts (Munich 1967) and at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg with Leo Pollmann he qualified as a professor with the work The comic theater of the French Middle Ages. Reality and Play (Munich 1975).

Schoell taught Romance philology from 1973 to 1992 as a professor of Franco-Romance literature at the University of Kassel and from 1992 to 2003 at the University of Erfurt , where the Institute for Romance Studies was founded under his direction.

In 1995 Schoell was the founding chairman of the Franco-Romanists Association .
