Konradihaus (Constance)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Konradihaus , also known as the Archbishop's Study Home Sankt Konrad , was a Catholic boys' seminary in Konstanz , named after Saint Konrad , Bishop of Konstanz and patron of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

history

In 1864 the clergymen Johann Georg Gruper, Peter Zureich and Thomas Geiselhart founded the boys' seminar at Rheingasse 80 in Constance. The pupils attended high school in Constance . In 1874 the seminar had to be closed in the course of the Kulturkampf . It continued to exist in the form of a "catering association", the students were housed in families and the building was rented out. In 1884 it was reopened by a private citizen. In 1889 it became a church institution again. After it had to be closed in 1898 due to hygienic and fire police complaints, the students moved with the Rector Holl to the new St. Bernhard seminar in Rastatt . In 1901 a new building could be used as the Archbishop's High School Convict St. Konrad. In the autumn of 1961 a new house could be moved into on the Sonnenbühl in Konstanz, Uhlandstraße 15. At the end of July 1999 the Konradihaus was closed.
