Gustav Kempf

Gustav Kempf (born January 8, 1890 in Göggingen , Baden; † May 25, 1972 there ) was a German Catholic clergyman.

Career

Gustav Kempf came as the son of the farmer Valerian Kempf (1841-1918) and his wife Barbara (Babette), nee. Haberbosch, (1848–1927) to the world. His father was mayor of Göggingen from 1893 to 1912. He attended the elementary school in his home village and from 1900 the community school in Meßkirch. In 1904 he moved as a pupil in the Konradihaus Gymnasiumkonvikt to the Konstanz Gymnasium, from which he graduated in 1910 with a high school diploma.

He then studied Catholic theology in Freiburg and attended the seminary in St. Peter / Black Forest. On July 7, 1914, he was ordained a priest by the Archbishop of Freiburg, Thomas Nörber . In the following years he worked as a pastor in various places. From 1923 he worked as a full-time religion teacher, initially at the Realgymnasium in Ettlingen, where he was appointed professor in 1927. In 1933 he was transferred to the Schlossgymnasium in Bruchsal, in 1937/38 he taught at the Zeppelin School in Konstanz and from 1938 to 1953 at the Grimmelshausen Gymnasium in Offenburg. From 1945 he was part-time, from 1953 to 1958 full-time director of the girls' grammar school Our Lady and pastor of the women's monastery of the same name in Offenburg. He spent his retirement in Göggingen.

In succession to Paul Körbe , he was editor of the St. Konrad calendar from 1930 to 1937 . He published some of his contributions under the pseudonym Wolfgang Goldin .

  • 1964: Honorary citizen of Göggingen : In accordance with the resolution of the municipal council of January 22, 1964, Kempf received honorary citizenship on July 19, 1964 on the occasion of his golden jubilee as a priest.
  • 1964: Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany
  • 2012: On the 40th anniversary of his death, the Gustav-Kempf-Weg was laid out in Göggingen in 2012 in memory of the first Gögginger honorary citizen Gustav Kempf .
