The Konstatierung is the way one of Moritz Schlick justified epistemology , obtained during the course of dealing with the protocol set theory has developed. The essence of this theory lies in the emphasis on the instantaneous character of the acquisition of knowledge , which consists of the present observations made in the present tense . Therefore, statements - also known as observation sentences - have an indicative function that is made clear by deictic means of expression. As a result, there can be no completely written down determinations , since these cannot be determined spatiotemporally .

Due to their nature, in the case of determinations - in contrast to other synthetic propositions - the determination of the meaning and the truth are coherent . Thus, statements behave analogously to analytical sentences , in which the understanding (the meaning) and the verification (the truth of a statement ) also coherent. From this fact it can be deduced that statements are the only synthetic propositions that are not hypotheses and are therefore not fraught with uncertainty.

A statement - which in itself represents a complete entity - is the established final result of an experiment that can serve as the basis for new hypotheses. As a result, statements have a temporary fixed point character , on which the process of gaining knowledge should be oriented. Their temporary character is also expressed in the fact that statements do not represent a static foundation of knowledge , but are merely points of contact between knowledge and reality.
