Conversation is a free graphical IRC - client , who on the KDE builds platform.
Functions
Konversation enables multiple simultaneous connections to IRC servers (optionally with SSL and / or IPv6 ). Furthermore conversation supports Blowfish - Encryption . The program can automatically detect whether UTF-8 is used in a chat and fully supports this coding. It can manage several identities so that different settings can be used for different servers.
Further functions are an on-screen display , bookmarks for servers and channels, and DCC connections.
Konversation is based on kdebase and is therefore optimally integrated into the KDE interface. Users who work a lot with the command line and chat a lot can run the console in a tab of this IRC client. Chat partners can be linked to entries in the KAddressbook . As a result, the image defined globally for a contact in KDE is also displayed in conversation. KDE, in turn, shows at various points whether the contact in question is currently available in the chat, e.g. B. when an e-mail from him is displayed with KMail .
By using KDE input / output (KIO), files can be sent to a chat partner using DCC. With the command
- / dcc send Nick http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konversation_(IRC-Client)
the text of this Wikipedia article can be sent directly to user Nick . Access to FTP , SSH and many other services is possible in the same way .
About Shell scripts and D-Bus of the functionality of conversation can be extend and integrate program functions in automated processes. For example, it would be conceivable, with the help of such a script, to have KOrganizer automatically send a message to a certain channel when an alarm occurs in the appointment management .
A script functionality such as B. at irssi is not yet possible.
