Piekary is the name of a department of the Bobrek-Piekary coal mine and is located between Bytom (Beuthen OS) and Piekary Śląskie (German Piekar) in Poland.

The Piekary mine was created by combining three formerly independent mines in the area between Bytom and Piekary Śląskie, namely from Julian , Andalusia / Andaluzja and Rozbark . The restructuring took place successively from 1998 by the Bytom Coal Company SA and was provisionally concluded in 2012 with the renaming to KWK Piekary. The mine was sold to Węglokoks SA on May 8, 2015 .

The mine that now only produces coal is the Julian mine founded on December 4, 1954 in Piekary Śląskie. First, the merger of Julian was done with Andalusia, the Minister of Economy, a portion of the adjacent coal mine Brzeziny slammed the mine in January 2003 with the approval, in 2005, came in connection with the liquidation of the mine Bytom II (formerly Rozbark) a part of their Berechtsame added.

The mine employed 2,900 people in 2012, around 2,300 of whom were underground. In the same year the mine produced approx. 6,000 t / d, the processing plants are designed for a capacity of up to 17,000 t / d. The entire right, which in 2012 still comprised 20.46 km², was reduced to 16.85 km² in 2015. Mining took place in the three fields Piekary Śląskie II (4.91 km²; seams 419, 504, 506/1, 510 and 615), Brzeziny Śląskie V (7.93 km²; seams 501 and 510) and Rozbark IV (4, 01 km²; seam 615).

The composite mine has a total of 6 shafts , three on Julian's premises, two in the Brzeziny area and one in Rozbark (Szyb Barbara). Since September 2005, ore has been mined in all three areas of the mine field and brought to light through the Julian I shaft. This is also where the ores are enriched.

Between 2012 and 2014 the daytime facilities in Andaluzja / Andalusia were demolished . In 2015 the mine was sold to Węglokoks SA Since the current operating license expires at the end of 2017, the future of the mine is uncertain.
