András Pataky

András Pataky ( Hungarian Pataky András , actually Andrija Pataki ; born January 1, 1932 in Vörösmart / Zmajevac , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † May 31, 2013 in Ernestinovo , Croatia ) was a teacher in Lug (Hungarian: Laskó ) in Baranya County at the elementary school of the Hungarian minority.

Pataky devoted himself to local folklore throughout his life , researching the origins of numerous customs and traditions, and studying the origins and dissemination of names of people and geographical locations. His research made a significant contribution to local ethnology and was also included in scientific publications with reference to the source. In addition, his writings and notes appeared in various periodicals , but mainly in Új Magyar Képes Újság , a weekly magazine for the Hungarian minority in Croatia. Suffering from the wars in Yugoslavia (1991–1995), he left his homeland initially for Germany, where he wrote a partly autobiographical chronicle of the turmoil of the civil war.

András Pataky was buried in his hometown Kopács / Kopačevo (Croatia).
