Location and landscape

The Koppe is the western summit of the Pleschaitz, which rises north of Teufenbach-Katsch ( Murau district ) between Katschtal and Wölzertal . It is part of the Wölzer Tauern - an east-west section of the Niedere Tauern - or the Murberg Mountains - the mountain range upstream of the Murtal.

The Koppe lies above Katsch an der Mur and the Hinterburggraben . It forms the western ridge of the Pleschaitz, between Leonhartsbach in the south and Totenbach in the north. The hill is inconspicuous and mostly wooded (Hinterkatschwald) .

On the slope of the Koppe are the scattered giant houses , at the foot of the Katsch ruins .

The name Koppe ('Kuppe') belongs to the Slavic namesake in Upper Styria, the word can be found several times in the Lower Tauern.

The hill is off the hiking trails and not developed. The marked ascent from Katsch to Pleschaitz leads south over the Angerboden.
