SH09 is a light single-engine multi-purpose helicopter made by the Swiss manufacturer Kopter (formerly Marenco Swisshelicopter ). The SH09 is currently undergoing certification in the EU and the USA, which is expected in early 2021.

history

In 2007, the Marenco Swisshelicopter was founded from the parent company Marenco (name changed to Kopter from February 1, 2018). The aim was to develop a new type of light multi-purpose helicopter in the 2.5-ton class. At the Heli-Expo 2011, the company presented a 1: 1 model of the helicopter for the first time. The first flight was initially scheduled for spring 2012, but was later postponed to June 2013 and then to August 2014. The first prototype of the SKYe SH09, the HB-ZXA, finally took off on October 2, 2014 in Mollis for a first short test flight. The second prototype HB-ZXB completed its maiden flight on February 26, 2016. The helicopter is to be certified first by the European flight safety authority EASA and then by its US counterpart FAA . The delivery was originally scheduled for 2018, but has been postponed several times. The first customer is Air Zermatt .

The project was mainly financed by the Russian oligarch Alexander Leonidowitsch Mamut , who invested a total of $ 380 million in the development of the SH09. The driving force on the technical side was the mechanical engineer and founder of Marenco Martin Stucki until the beginning of December 2016 . Due to differences with the financier, he left the company on January 1, 2017. Andreas Löwenstein has been the managing director since then. In February 2018, the production hall in Mollis was completed. At the beginning of 2020, certification of the helicopter was expected after the turn of the year 2020/2021, after the rotor head had been fundamentally revised. In January 2020, 70 helicopters were sold and production was planned in Mollis.

At the end of January 2020, the Italian armaments company Leonardo acquired 100% of the manufacturer Kopter for a price of 185 million dollars plus earn out based on sales figures achieved; the sale of the project to Leonardo is intended to secure further financing. Kopter is to become the competence center for single-engine helicopters from Leonardo.

construction

The cell of the SKYe SH09 is largely made of fiber composite materials. Generous glazing and a pane in the floor should give the pilots an optimal view of the surroundings and the payload. The interior is accessible through sliding side doors and a split rear door. A variable seating concept should offer the user a lot of flexibility in designing the cabin. The bearingless, five-bladed main rotor has an internal control linkage. An encapsulated tail rotor takes care of the torque compensation . The two rotors are driven by a Honeywell HTS900 engine. According to the manufacturer, these measures should give the helicopter low noise emissions, high cruising speed and good hot-and-high performance .
