Kornhaus Burgdorf

The former granary in Burgdorf in the canton of Bern housed a museum for folk culture between 1991 and 2005 . Beer has been brewed in the Kornhaus since the end of 2012.

The building was built in 1770 as an official grain store.

The "Museum of Folk Culture" was opened in 1991. It documented under the scientific direction of Brigitte Bachmann-Geiser folk culture mainly based on musical instruments , audio samples and slide shows past and present of folk music and yodelling song and the costume being . In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Kornhaus also had special exhibitions on domestic and foreign folklore , a sales gallery for handicrafts and a rich concert program . The Kornhaus also housed one of Europe's largest collections of phonographs andGramophones .

At the end of October 2005 the Kornhaus Burgdorf Foundation ceased its activities and was liquidated. Due to the long-term underfunding of the foundation and because the attempt to include the Swiss federal state in the sponsorship in addition to the city of Burgdorf and the canton of Bern was unsuccessful, despite many efforts it was not possible to adapt the Burgdorfer Kornhaus to the needs of a national competence center for the Orient folk culture. Musical collection groups from the Kornhausmuseum ended up in the Ballenberg open-air museum .

Beer has been brewed in the Kornhaus since the end of 2012. From August 2008 to September 2016 the ROTH Foundation Burgdorf is housed in the Kornhaus, from 2008 to 2011 in the cultural property protection room (with an office on the 1st floor), from 2011 to 2016 on the 4th floor (top floor).
