List of cultural assets in Burgdorf

The list of cultural assets in Burgdorf contains all objects in the municipality of Burgdorf in the canton of Bern that are subject to the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict , the Federal Act of June 20, 2014 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and the Ordinance of 29 June 2014 October 2014 on the protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict .

Objects in categories A and B are completely included in the list, objects in category C are currently missing (as of January 1, 2018). Among other monuments protected objects are found, the "worthy of protection" in the canton of Bern Bauinventar than are listed.

		Burgdorf Castle KGS-No .: 827	A.	G	Schlossgässli 1-4 614 476  /  211544	The hilltop castle built by the Zähringers in the 11th century , significantly expanded around 1200. From this period comes the keep and the palace , in the second half of the 13th century there was a east-side expansion by the Kyburgs . Various new buildings by the Bernese in the 16th and 18th centuries, today used as a governor's office, district court and museum. The imposing, cityscape-defining complex is one of the few large high aristocratic castles in Switzerland that has remained largely unchanged in its external form.
		Former Grosse Apotheke and Diesbacherhaus KGS-No .: 829	A.	G	Hohengasse 19-21 six hundred and fourteen thousand three hundred and thirty-eight  /  211729	The Diesbacherhaus is a town house built between 1743 and 1745 and inspired by the buildings of Albrecht Stürler . Alley front with pilaster strips and profiled cornices . The indicated central risalit is emphasized by a very lively sculptural work with delicate rocailles and shell and acanthus pendants. The adjacent large pharmacy, which was built in the same period, but has a somewhat less sophisticated design, probably comes from the same builder.
		Infirmary and chapel KGS-No .: 832	A.	G	Kapellenweg 2, 5 614840  /  212 450	In 1500 built and 1798 reversed the leprosarium . Mighty late-Gothic rectangular building with wide-jointed sandstone ashlar masonry under a cantilevered hipped roof . Next to it is the Infirmary Chapel (or Bartholomew's Chapel), consecrated in 1446, a simple late Gothic rectangular building under a steep pitched roof with an open turret . It is one of the few remaining field chapels in the canton of Bern.
		Grosshaus KGS-No .: 838	A.	G	Hohengasse 4 / Kronenplatz 4 six hundred fourteen thousand three hundred fifteen  /  two hundred eleven thousand seven hundred thirteen	Between 1629 and 1636 J. Fankhauser built a town house in the Renaissance - Gothic style and one of the largest preserved merchant houses of the 17th century in the canton of Bern. Imposing solid construction under a mighty, bent gable roof with an intact, representative square facade in sandstone. The facade was redesigned in 1927/28 by Ernst Linck .
		Haus zum Ochsen KGS-Nr .: 839	A.	G	Hohengasse 35 614 326  /  211651	Wholesale merchant's house built for Jakob Trechsel in 1627, rebuilt around 1710 and 1730 in two stages in a baroque style. Imposing structure with three full and three attic storeys under a large, angled gable roof that towers above all neighboring houses. Facing Rütschelengasse, the house has one of the most monumental gable facades of the Renaissance - Gothic in the canton of Bern.
		Cantonal technical center KGS no .: 843	A.	G	Technikumstrasse 7 613 810  /  211875	School building built by Otto Dorer and Adolf Füchslin between 1892 and 1894, today one of the locations of the Bern University of Applied Sciences . On the north edge of the guest hill, a prominently placed neo-renaissance building under a flat hipped roof with a strict classicist facade. Consisting of a mighty building block with a prestigious effect with a staircase tract protruding to the southwest and side wings, with the main facade also having central and side projections .
		Vila Schmid and Leineweberei Schmid (since 1980 Leineweberei Schwob); above: factory; below: Villa and Tröckne Tower KGS no .: 844	A.	G	Kirchbergstrasse 15, 23 613 787  /  212274	Factory owner's villa (1868) at Kirchbergstrasse 15; Factory building (1894) in the style of historicism at Kirchbergstrasse 23. The high-quality industrial building made of exposed brick consists of an east- facing longitudinal tract under a gable roof with a risalit-like central field and a weaving hall under shed roofs attached to the west . Opposite the industrial building from 1868 is the smaller factory built first (1861) with a remarkable drying tower for dyed fabric panels. The villa is a symmetrical built-in house under a low hipped roof in the transition between late classicism and early historicism.
		Villa Roth KGS no .: 850	A.	G	Kreuzgraben 2 614039  /  211759	Villa of a merchant family in the Biedermeier style , built by Robert Roller I in 1841/42, converted into a neo-renaissance castle in 1882 . The building is lavishly structured and decorated; It has differently designed portholes , a south-facing veranda and a domed tower belvedere .
		Museum Franz Gertsch KGS-No .: 8546	A.	S.	Platanenstrasse 3 six hundred and fourteen thousand one hundred and seventy  /  211895	Mostly privately financed museum dedicated to the work of the painter and graphic artist Franz Gertsch . There are also temporary exhibitions that present a wide range of contemporary art.
		Hofgut Villa Schnell KGS-No .: 9126	A.	G	Bernstrasse 53-57 613 749  /  211299	Villa built in 1866/67 for the entrepreneur Franz Schnell , at times used as a hotel and outstation of the Hindelbank women's prison. Noble-looking, historic building under a mansard roof , inspired by French models of the 17th and 18th centuries, surrounded by an English landscape garden . The ensemble also includes the garage and gardener's house and the garden pavilion in the park, both built in 1915.
		Former girls' school KGS-No .: 9147	A.	G	New lane 5 / Schmiedengasse 30 614 167  /  211626	School building in neo-baroque style built in 1871/72 by Robert Roller II and Johann Gribi . Representative house installation under a slightly inclined, little protruding hip roof with a lantern top . Extremely richly orchestrated facades with windows roofed differently from storey to storey, finely graduated relief and strong horizontal structures.
		Former Lower Hospital KGS-No .: 9211	A.	G	Metzgergasse 15 614 335  /  211813	Hospital with chapel , first mentioned in 1287 , used as a grain chute from 1626 and as a slaughterhouse from 1838 to 1985 . In 1835 by Robert Roller I rebuilt in the classicist style, elongated structure under a gable roof with a heavily profiled house stone portal frame in the central axis.
		Homestead Grafenscheuren KGS-No .: 9212	A.	G	Count Scheuren 2 615,137  /  213838	Newly built farmhouse in 1820, which together with the floor, agricultural outbuildings, fountain and house and tree garden forms a group courtyard of rare unity. Stand construction under an imposing hipped roof with semicircles and a very stately-looking main facade with arched windows based on the late Baroque model.

Military Street 12 615000  /  210200	The "Foundation Historical Swiss Army Material" in the military competence center takes care of on behalf of the VBS to the inventory, the professional restoration and preservation as well as the proper storage of military-historical collection of materials of the Swiss army , which includes more than 100,000 objects.
		Altes Kornhaus KGS-No .: 824	B.	G	Kornhausgasse 16 614.28 thousand  /  211945	Grain store built in 1770 , used as a salt store from 1818, location of the Museum of Folk Culture from 1991 to 2005; Used as a brewery since 2012 . Free-standing and strong baroque building with powerful, widely cantilevered bending hip roof with tow dormers . The plastered facades with relatively few windows are structured from sandstone .
		Burgerratskanzlei with burger archive KGS-No .: 828	B.	G	Kirchbühl 25 614,165  /  211685	The building was erected in 1442 as a parsonage and extended in the second half of the 16th century. It has been used as a council and administrative seat since 1868. Impressive late Gothic solid construction under a steep, strongly bent gable roof . On the south side archive extension from 1622 with coupling windows and polygonal stair tower with half-timbered tower from 1732.
		Former Steinhof Brewery KGS-No .: 830	B.	G	Steinhof 23 613490  /  211320	The brewhouse of the former Steinhof brewery, built in 1902 , originated from the beer storage facilities that have been located in five rock caverns since 1875. Two-part structure placed directly on the steep slope in the romanticizing castle style of historicism . High north wing with a two-storey ground floor, a gable roof sloping towards the street and a transverse gable above the stairwell; elongated south wing under a slightly inclined monopitch roof .
		Former flax spinning mill Miescher KGS no .: 831	B.	G	Sägegasse 18/22 614515  /  211735	In the years 1840-1842 was built flax yarn - spinning the company's "Brothers Miescher" 1870 east side extended and increased 1905th Elongated solid construction, regularly structured by high rectangular windows, under a gable roof with dormer windows and a striking stair tower . Next to it, on Mülibach, is the west wing, a three-part solid building with a raised central section and a balanced classicist gable facade, which was built in the same period .
		Gasthof Metzgern KGS no .: 833	B.	G	Hohengasse 12 614 290  /  211680	Guild house built by Robert Roller I for the butchers' guild between 1843 and 1847 , today used as a restaurant. Mighty structure with house facade . The ground floor opens up in three large arcades to form a cross-vaulted pillar hall, while the first and second floors are strictly orthogonal. A special feature are the late Biedermeier terracotta decorations with animals, foliage and figural scenes from the butcher's trade.
		Covered Inner Wynigen Bridge KGS No .: 834	B.	G	Wynigenstrasse 11 614 610  /  211995	Covered wooden bridge built in 1776 over a no longer existing river course of the Emme . The truss and hanging truss construction has four yokes on three pillars and two abutments , with two parallel, independent hanging trusses with two hanging columns on each side of the yoke holding the beams under the longitudinal girders.
		Geleise- und Tiefbau AG (former EBT workshop) KGS-No .: 835	B.	G	Kirchbergstrasse 43f 613725  /  212280	Striking three-part exposed brick building with elegantly curved gable roofs, built in 1911 for the Emmental-Burgdorf-Thun Railway . This is one of the first applications of the Hetzerbinder construction method, which was new at the time, in Switzerland with the interior of the column-free halls.
		Lorraine commercial building (former Steinhof brewery) KGS no .: 836	B.	G	Lorraine 614740  /  212300	Brewery building built in 1906/07 , today various commercial uses. The exposed brick building is a typical representative of the romanticizing castle style of historicism , which was popular with breweries at the turn of the century. Five large pillar arcades on the ground floor , above the superstructure made of multi-colored molded stone with decorative elements such as friezes , turrets and battlements.

G	Kirchbühl 2 six hundred and fourteen thousand two hundred and eighty  /  211745	Former town hall in late baroque style, built between 1746 and 1750 , today used as a hotel and restaurant. Four-wing system around a formerly open arcade courtyard . Stately structure with simple plaster facades under a bent hipped roof as well as a representative main facade in sandstone . Noteworthy is the high-quality, sculptural jewelry from Johann Friedrich Funk .
		Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin KGS-No .: 842	B.	G	Friedeggstrasse 10 613739  /  211908	Roman Catholic church building built in 1901/02 in neo-Romanesque style. The hall church under a gable roof has a bell tower covered with a pointed gable roof. Inside, a simple rectangular hall with an open roof, square choir and apse . The front is a ciborium-like portico , above it a niche with a figure of Mary.
		Lochbach-Bad, former paint factory KGS-No .: 846	B.	G	Lochbach 18-22 six hundred and fifteen thousand one hundred and thirty  /  209400	Factory building in Biedermeier style built in the late 1820s in front of a steep rock face, expanded in 1845 and 1876. Elongated, plastered building with half-timbering and gable facade as well as corner pilasters , cornice and arched windows made of stone .
		Restaurant Bahnhof KGS-No .: 847	B.	G	Bahnhofstrasse 3 614475  /  209845	Gastronomy business built in 1879 next to the Oberburg train station of the Burgdorf-Thun Railway . The exposed frame building in the Swiss wood style has a wide front facing the train station, formed by the gable side of the main building with dome tower and the eaves side of the hall wing placed across it. This creates a carefully balanced tension between symmetry and asymmetry.
		Schützenhaus KGS-No .: 848	B.	G	Wynigenstrasse 13 614 545  /  211920	1784 built for protecting society and the town of Burgdorf clubhouse , in 1836 by Robert Roller I in classical , now used as extended style restaurant. Solid main structure standing parallel to the street, to the right and left of it transverse wings in post construction with the former shooting ranges; both parts of the building under saddle roofs .
		Outer summer house KGS no .: 849	B.	G	Summer house 1 615323  /  212930	Bath house built between 1775 and 1777 (instead of a previous building from 1659), used as a country inn since the 20th century . Stately, protruding structure in the baroque style under a protruding hipped roof with terrace. The plastered ground floor rests on a high basement plinth, the upper floor is designed as a gray-painted framework .
		Ziegelhütte KGS-No .: 851	B.	G	Ziegelgut 3 614975  /  210620	Shortly after 1787 built brick cottage , 1835 by Robert Roller I expanded. This important witness of the economic development is an imposing two-part building in post-and-beam construction under a hipped, very far projecting gable roof of continuous ridge height.
		Roth Foundation KGS no .: 8611	B.	S.	Kreuzgraben 2 614055  /  211770	Collection and documentation of works of art on regional cultural history, on the cultural history of Swiss cheese as well as dairy and alpine farming, created from the estate of the historian and cheese merchant Alfred G. Roth.
		Burgerarchiv Burgdorf KGS-No .: 8859	B.	S.	Bernstrasse 5 six hundred and fourteen thousand one hundred sixty-five  /  211685	The archive of the civic community , which dates back to 1267, includes the administrative documents of the old town of Burgdorf and its dominant areas in Oberaargau and Emmental, which were created before 1832. This includes documents, minutes of the council, court and choir court manuals, interest rags and other documents with a volume of around 80 linear meters.
		Inner summer house KGS-No .: 16170	B.	G	Inner summer house 1 614 906  /  212635	Rural summer residence from the 16th / 17th centuries Century, rebuilt around 1790 to a winter-proof house and in 1875 by Robert Roller II added a tower-like extension. The stately home of the politician Karl Schnell is an important example of the nature-loving lifestyle of the rural upper class in the 19th century. Together with the outbuildings, the fountain, the garden and the linden tree, it forms an intact complex of great charisma.
