Burgdorf town church
The reformed town church of Burgdorf is the largest church building in the town of Burgdorf .
The late Gothic pillar basilica was built from 1471 to 1490 under Niklaus Birenvogt, who was the master craftsman at the Bern Minster , and replaced the Zähringische Liebfrauenkirche from the last quarter of the 12th century.
The tower is 72 m high. The late Gothic rood screen , which was completed by Heinrich Kummer in 1512, is considered the most valuable rood screen in Switzerland. In 1867 it was moved to the back of the ship as an organ gallery and turned 180 degrees.
From 1725 to 1761, Johann Rudolf Gruner worked as pastor at the town church in Burgdorf . He founded Solennität , a school festival that is still celebrated today and traditionally includes a service in the town church. Another well-known pastor at the town church was the song writer Gottlieb Jakob Kuhn , who worked here from 1824 to 1849.
