Solitude
The Solemnity (from Latin Solemnis "solemnly") is a traditional school festival in the cities of Burgdorf in the canton of Bern and Murten in the canton of Friborg .
Solemnity in Burgdorf
The Burgdorfer Solkeit, which is popularly known in Bern German as Solequipment , takes place on the last Monday of June and was first held in 1729 at the suggestion of Dean Johann Rudolf Gruner .
At the end of the school year , the teachers march through the old town on the morning parade with their classes , high school connections and cadet music , the girls wearing white skirts and wreaths of flowers on their hair and the boys dressed in black and white suits . The cadets from Burgdorf lead the move, in the past every Burgdorf pupil was a cadet, today there are only a few (approx. 200). The goal is the town church , where a service takes place and the first graders receive a commemorative coin from the members of the school commission . The afternoon parade , on the other hand, leads through the old town to the Schützenmatt, where the festival lasts until the early evening.
The whole thing ends in a folk festival that lasts until the early hours of the morning.
Solemnity in Murten
The solemnity in Murten, which is popularly called Soli in Friborg German, is celebrated annually on June 22nd in memory of the Battle of Murten .
On June 22nd, the cadet corps from Murten (pupils) marched uniformed through the “Stedtli” during the morning parade, the girls all in white (or optionally also in uniform). This is followed by the service, the battle report (presented by students) and a speech by the captain (highest ranking of the cadets).
In the afternoon there is another parade through the “Stedtli” followed by the athletic competitions of the cadets and the dances of the girls.
The whole thing ends in a folk festival that lasts until the early hours of the morning.
