Corps Lombardia

The Corps Lombardia was a mixed German-Italian large unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht in Northern Italy during World War II . The northern Italian region Lombardy (Italian Lombardia) was the namesake.

history

The Corps Lombardia was formed on August 3, 1944 from parts of the General Command LXXXVII. formed and subordinated to the 14th Army . It was formed from the Italian 3rd Infantry Division "San Marco", the 4th Mountain Division "Monte Rosa" and parts of the German 148th Reserve Division . At the end of the war in May 1945, the corps of the Liguria Army was under Marshal Graziani , and General of the Artillery Jahn was the commanding general . The major unit withdrew before the 5th US Army through Liguria into the Lombardy Alps .
