The 54th Munich Security Conference ( MSC 2018 ) took place from February 16 to 18, 2018 at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich .

At the opening, Federal Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and French Defense Minister Florence Parly spoke and confirmed their will for stronger military cooperation. Awards ceremonies

The US politician John McCain was awarded the Ewald von Kleist Prize for his services to transatlantic relations and the security conference. Since Senator McCain could not travel to Munich due to illness, his wife Cindy accepted the award for him. For many years, McCain led the American congressional delegations to the security conferences as a senator.

Wolfgang Ischinger , chairman of the conference, received the Nunn-Lugar Award for Promoting Nuclear Security by Carnegie Corporation and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace .

The Munich city center was guarded by 4,000 police officers . According to the police, up to 20 counter-demonstrations were planned.
