Moussa Faki

Moussa Faki Mahamat ( Arabic موسى فكي محمد, DMG Mūsā Fakī Muḥammad , born June 21, 1960 in Biltine ) has been the Chairman of the Commission of the African Union since 2017 . He was Prime Minister of Chad from June 24, 2003 to February 4, 2005 and Foreign Minister of his country from April 23, 2008.

Life

He is a member of the Mouvement Patriotique du Salut (MPS) party. Like President Idriss Déby , who appointed Faki as head of government in 2003, he belongs to the Zaghawa ethnic group . Faki resigned in early February 2005 during a strike . Arguments between Déby and him were cited as the reason for this step.

On January 30, 2017, Faki was elected chairman of the AU commission at the 28th African Union (AU) summit . He succeeded the South African Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in office. Faki is the first Chader to hold this post.
