Albert Pahimi Padacké ( Arabic ألبر بهيمي بدكي, DMG Albir Bahīmī Badakī , born November 15, 1966 ) is a Chadian politician and was Prime Minister of the Republic of Chad from February 13, 2016 to May 5, 2018 .

Life

Various offices

In the 1990s, Padacké was finance minister and later worked as trade minister until he and two other ministers were fired by President Idriss Déby in November 1997 for absenteeism (Déby visited government buildings without prior notice and found Padacké not at his place of work).

In February 2001, Padacké was appointed State Secretary for Finance, before he was appointed Minister for Mines, Energy and Oil on April 8, 2001. In August 2001 he was released from this position and this time appointed minister without portfolio. He held this post until June 2002.

Padacké was elected to the National Assembly in April 2002 as a candidate for the Rassemblement national pour la démocratie au Tchad (RNDP-Le Réveil) party. From June 2002 to August 2005 he was a member of the Central African Economic Community , after which he was appointed Minister of Agriculture on August 7, 2005.

In the presidential elections in May 2006, in which many parties did not even take part because they believed that the elections had already been rigged , he was a candidate for the RNDP-Le Réveil and came in third with 7.82%. On May 29, shortly after the elections, he congratulated the winner Idriss Déby.

Later he was again Minister of Agriculture and from March 7, 2007 Minister of Justice. On April 23, 2008, he was appointed Minister of Post, Information Technologies and Communications.

As prime minister

Finally, on February 13, 2016, Pahimi Padacké was appointed Prime Minister by President Idriss Déby. He replaced his predecessor Kalzeubé Pahimi Deubet .

At the beginning of January 2017, Padacké declared the border with neighboring Libya a restricted military area . This measure is intended to prevent further IS fighters from fleeing to Chad after some terrorists had already been able to cross the border.

The election of Moussa Faki as chairman of the AU Commission on January 30, 2017 was welcomed by Padacké. In a letter he congratulated Faki on his choice and wished him every success in his job. He also thanked everyone who supported Faki.

On April 30, 2018, in a vote boycotted by the opposition in parliament, the constitution was amended to the effect that a purely presidential system without a head of government was introduced and the rules governing the term of office of the president were changed. Three days later, just before the change came into force, the entire government resigned, but remained in office until successors were appointed.
