Kothener Strasse 1
The object Kothener Straße 1 is a residential building in Wuppertal residential district Friedrich-Engels-Allee in the district Barmen .
Building description
The three-storey residential building with a plastered facade, which was built in the mid-19th century in a classicist style , has a gable roof. It has five axes to the front on Friedrich-Engels-Allee . The building on Kothener Straße is accessed via a single external staircase in the middle axis of the three-axis gable end. The roof is provided with three dormers on the front and two on the rear . At the corners of the building there are faintly indicated corner pillars; the eaves surround the whole building.
The building ensemble also includes a two-story brick factory built in 1908 ( 51 ° 15 ′ 46.7 ″ N , 7 ° 10 ′ 43 ″ E ), which is also listed at Kothener Strasse 1. The gable facade on Kothener Straße has two-story, three-axis, segment-arch-like recessed blind windows. The gable and parapet surfaces are plastered above the segmental arches and the gable is provided with a flat arched verge. The corners of this building with a gable roof are equipped with corner pillars that border on the sides. Segmented arched windows of a similar design as the blind windows are located on the eaves side. Both buildings are connected by a single-storey connecting building with a flat roof between the residential building and the factory building. To the south of the factory building is another single-storey building made of jointed brick with a pent roof. This represents the former boiler house with a separate former horse stable. Both courtyards are closed with an enclosure wall, each with a gate to the street.

The factory building from 1908 was the former FW Jürges dye works.
The residential building, including the factory building and the enclosure walls, was entered on June 8, 1988 as a monument under a common monument number in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.
Until its dissolution in 2008, the residential building was the seat of the party Die Grauen - Graue Panther, founded in 1989 .
