history

The village of Kothigenbibersbach was first mentioned in 1279. The name can be traced back to Ulrich von Piberspach, a knight of his own. Until 1499 the place was led under the name Pibersbach, 1514/1515 the name Kotissen Bibersbach came up. In 1969 the former municipality of Kothigenbibersbach was given its own coat of arms.

The Sauerbrunnen became famous in 1729 through the doctor Christoph Keil. On July 14, 1957, the reopened fountain was inaugurated. The fountain pavilion is still there and can be seen from afar. The tasty medicinal water is taken from a hand pump. Even today people come from near and far to fill the bottles with water.

The stone houses and the Karlmühle belong to Kothigenbibersbach.

On the occasion of the regional reform on April 1, 1977, the municipality of Kothigenbibersbach was dissolved. Their area was divided into the Thiersheim market (then with around 140 inhabitants), the community Schirnding (with around 140 inhabitants at the time) and the city of Arzberg (with around 25 inhabitants at that time).
