Friedrich Wilhelm Singer

Friedrich Wilhelm Singer (born June 18, 1918 in Arzberg (Upper Franconia) ; † September 15, 2003 in Weiden idOPf. ) Was a general practitioner, local researcher and folklorist for the Fichtelgebirge region .

Life

After graduating from the Jean-Paul-Gymnasium in Hof , he began studying medicine at the University of Vienna in 1939 , which he completed in 1943 with a doctorate at the Charles University in Prague . During his internship at the city hospital in Eger , he devoted himself to the history of the local health care system. As a result of his research, he published his first fundamental historical work in 1948: The health system in Alt-Eger - Medical- historical achievements of a free imperial city . From 1945 to 1950 Singer was an assistant doctor at Marktredwitz Hospital , then he settled as a general practitioner in his hometown of Arzberg, where he practiced for more than thirty years.

In addition to practicing his profession, Singer worked tirelessly as a local researcher, folklorist , researcher of prehistory and early history , linguist , archivist and editor of local history writings. The newspaper supplement Sechsämterland , which he founded in 1950 together with the local newspaper, the Sechsämter Neuesten Nachrichten , made it to the last issue of the series, which appeared on March 10, 1990, on 1420 consecutively numbered pages with more than 600 articles from his pen. In addition, he provided numerous monographs and a large number of articles in the various periodicals , such as the archive for the history of Upper Franconia , the Siebenstern , the Kulturwarte , the Upper Palatinate home and the home calendar for the Fichtelgebirge, Franconian Forest and Vogtland .

Singer died in 2003. Until recently he worked on the edition of the Vogtsrechnung of the Hohenberg-Wunsiedel office from 1421/22 . The first copies were sold at his funeral.

Honors

Singer has received a number of honors for his wide-ranging activities. In 1965 he was elected by the Society for Franconian History as a member. In 1975 he was appointed honorary member of the Historical Association for Upper Franconia . In 1982 Singer received the medal "For exemplary home care" from the Bavarian State Association for Home Care. In 1988 he was honored with the culture prize of the Fichtelgebirgsverein .
