Adolf Rhomberg (born March 23, 1851 in Dornbirn ; † September 7, 1921 at Hofen Castle near Lochau ) was a textile entrepreneur. From 1890 to 1918 he was governor of Vorarlberg .

Life

Adolf Rhomberg comes from a family of manufacturers in Dornbirn. He was a partner in the oldest Austrian textile factory, the Herrburger-Rhomberg company . His parents were Eduard and Luise Rhomberg. From 1871 to 1875 he studied law in Innsbruck and Freiburg . In Innsbruck, Adolf Rhomberg married Anna Kogler in 1875. The marriage remained childless. Rhomberg was buried in the Capuchin Church of St. Joseph - which he founded in 1894 - in the center of Dornbirn .

In 1868 he was the founder and first senior of the academic regional association Vorarlbergia Innsbruck ; In 1877 he was a member of the preliminary fraternity of the Suevia Innsbruck fraternity . He began his political activities in 1876 as a member of the Dornbirn municipal council as a member of the Catholic-Conservative Party. In 1880 he was elected to the board of the Vorarlberg State Archives. Rhomberg was protector of the CV connection Saxo-Bavaria Prague and honorary member of Carolina Graz .

On September 21, 1890, Adolf Rhomberg was appointed governor of Vorarlberg by Emperor Franz Joseph I. He held this position until the end of the monarchy in 1918.

On November 3, 1918, eight days before Emperor Karl I abdicated, the provisional state assembly, chaired by Adolf Rhomberg, met again for the first time since the First World War and Vorarlberg's declaration of independence was approved by all 30 members.
