Karl Graf von Belrupt-Tissac (born December 14, 1826 in Pleternica , Slavonia ; † May 31, 1903 in Bregenz ) was an officer and governor of Vorarlberg (1878–1890).

biography

Karl was born in the Slavonia region in Croatia on December 14, 1826 as the son of Franz Belrupt-Tissac and Antonia von Sternberg-Rudelsdorf . His family was an old noble dynasty, originally from Lorraine . Among his ancestors was the Silesian court and star cross order lady Hedwig Maximiliane Countess Dyhrn .

He attended the Theresian Military Academy and initially pursued an army officer career and subsequently remained with the gendarmerie until 1852. Then Count Belrupt-Tissac resigned as Rittmeister. He settled as a landowner in Lochau and devoted himself above all to promoting agriculture. In 1861 he founded the Agricultural Association of Vorarlberg and from 1871 the aristocratic "Wahlvorarlberger" was a member of the manor house .

He married Emilie Countess von Schärffenberg, c. Countess von Attems (1812–1884), daughter of Count Johann von Schärffenberg and Countess Maria Josepha von Thurn-Valsassina.

From 1874 he was a member of the state parliament and on September 21, 1878 Karl Graf von Belrupt-Tissac was appointed governor of Vorarlberg by Emperor Franz Joseph I. He thus succeeded Anton Jussel (* 1816; † 1878).

During his political activities, he significantly promoted the infrastructure for the economy of the state of Vorarlberg by building the Arlbergbahn and promoting steam shipping on Lake Constance .

His successor as governor of Vorarlberg was Adolf Rhomberg (1890-1918).
