The Kotscherigin OPB ( Russian Кочеригин ОПБ , also: OKB-5 , ОКБ-5) was a Soviet dive fighter from the time of the Second World War . In favor of the Petlyakov Pe-2 , the project was abandoned in the prototype stage .
OPB stands for "Odnomestni pikirujuschtschi bombardirowschtschik" (Одноместний пикирующий бомбардировщик), single-seat dive bomber, according to other sources for "Odnomotorni" (Одномоторний "(Одномоторний)
development
Sergei Kotscherigin began construction work in 1938 under the impression of the German Ju 87 dive fighter plane . The pattern was mostly made of metal, only wood was used for the rear fuselage segment and the tail unit . The low - wing aircraft had a two-spar gull wing with automatic slats . The landing flaps also acted as dive brakes and were adjustable by 90 °. The landing gear could be fully retracted, with the main wheels entering the wing center section and being pivoted by 90 °. The bomb bay for receiving a 500 kg bomb was located under the pilot's cabin with the cockpit made of armored glass K-4 . When it was released, it was swiveled down on a deflector to avoid contact with the propeller. As a special feature, the model had an aerodynamic propeller fairing that ended with the fuselage diameter. The motor was air-cooled through a central hole in the spindle.
Originally, the type known as OPB was to have an M-90 engine with 1250 kW take-off power and thus reach 600 km / h at an altitude of 5700 meters. Due to a lack of availability, however, an ASch-82A had to be used , later an ASch-71 . Testing began in early 1941 and was interrupted by the attack by the German Reich on the Soviet Union in June of the same year. Due to the German advance and the resulting evacuation of many design offices and production companies to the east, the program was finally discontinued in early 1942 with the dissolution of OKB Kotscherigin.
