Krøyer's lantern fish ( Notoscopelus kroyeri ) is a small, oceanic deep-sea fish that occurs in the northern Atlantic between the Arctic Circle and 37 ° north latitude.

features

The fish are about 14 centimeters long. Their body color is dark brown, some rows of scales are light. The base of the dorsal fin is longer than the anal fin base. Like all lantern fish, Krøyer's lantern fish has luminous organs in rows along the lower half of the body and on the head. The caudal fin is forked, behind the dorsal fin there is a small adipose fin . The pectoral fins are small.

Way of life

Krøyer's lantern fish lives at depths of around 300 to 1000 meters during the day (mostly between 800 and 900 meters), but at night it rises to depths above 125 meters to search for food, sometimes even to the surface of the sea ( vertical migration ). It feeds mainly on small crustaceans . At the age of 4 the fish become sexually mature.
