The Krabbenloch-Kaserne was a barracks in the Ludwigsburg district east. For the longest time of its existence it was a barracks of the American army and was enclosed by Danziger Strasse in the west, Wieselweg in the south and Friedrichstrasse in the north, on the site of today's residential area Rotbäumlesfeld. The name comes from a crab hole there Won . Other names of the barracks were Rotbäumleskaserne, (New) Artillery Barracks and Adolf Hitler Barracks. It was demolished in 1995.

History until the end of the war

Construction of the Krabbenloch barracks began in 1938. At the start of the war in 1939, the original plans had not yet been completed. The barracks were planned for a horse section of the 25th Artillery Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division . Before 1945 it was used as the headquarters of a POW camp. The camp itself, known as main camp 5A , or “Stalag VA” for short, was located on the site of what is now the Grünbühl district .

As an internment camp , the Americans called the barracks Camp IC72. It existed from 1945 to 1948.

The Krabbenloch barracks 1949–1993

In the years 1949-1993 the US Army was in the Krabbenloch barracks. The 34th Signal Battalion of the VII Corps and the 4th Surgical Hospital of the 30th Medical Group were stationed here. In 1993 the US Army gave up the Krabbenloch Barracks.

The Krabbenloch barracks was demolished in 1995. Only the heating building was preserved and is still in function. A new building area, the so-called Rotbäumlesfeld, was built. In addition to apartments, this residential area also includes a supermarket, a gas station, a primary school, a kindergarten and a sports hall.
