In combat , the activity as a (motorcycle) detector is extremely dangerous, as it is very worthwhile for the enemy to cut off communications between the enemy troops. In modern combat scenarios, motorcyclists are only used to a limited extent because of the highly advanced communication technology ( Network-Centric Warfare ). Nevertheless, from the management level of a platoon to the higher-level company, detectors are to be deployed on foot and from the company to the battalion command post Kradmelder. For this purpose, one detector is sent from the train to the company command post and remains there, whereas the battalion reconnaissance and liaison train uses a motorcycle detector, now also with a quad, to the company command post. This is due to the different structure of the command group or battalion staff. The motorcyclist, in particular a quad with trailer, can also bring urgent supplies to the front to a small extent. The reporting route is to be driven in, each detector has to travel once from the reporting point to the respective command post.

Motorization of motorcycle detectors in the Bundeswehr

In the German Armed Forces , motorcycle detectors are subordinate to the staff and supply company . Earlier herein were Hercules-K-125-BW motorbikes used which, LS-E Military KTM 400 have been replaced. The KTM was in turn replaced by the BMW G 650GS. As of 2019, BMW F 850 GS motorcycles will be used as the successor model.

Other uses

Motorcycle detectors accompany columns as traffic safety posts or take over courier services when communication systems fail. As their name suggests, they are motorized with motorcycles . Non-motorized detectors are called reporters .

In aid organizations, motorcycle detectors are also used as on-site helpers or first aiders in confusing terrain. The prerequisite for this is appropriate training and equipment. For larger deployments, the motorcycle detector can act as a pilot for approaching non-local units.

Furthermore, motorcycle detectors are used as explorers for field cable routes.
