The Älvkarleby power plant is a run-of-river power plant in the village of Älvkarleby , Uppsala County , Sweden , which dams the Dalälven . Around eight kilometers downstream, the Dalälven flows into the Baltic Sea .
The power plant went into operation in 1915. It is owned by Vattenfall and operated by Vattenfall.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure consists of a concrete gravity dam . The weir system with the flood relief is located approx. 300 m upstream from the power plant.

The Älvkarleby power plant has an installed capacity of 125 MW with five Francis and one Kaplan turbines . The average annual production is 510 million kWh . The fall height is 23 m. The maximum flow is 420 m³ / s.
The power station and the dam were renewed from 1988 to 1991; In addition, an additional Kaplan turbine was installed, increasing the installed capacity from the original 70 to 125 MW.
