The Aschaffenburg power plant was a coal-fired power plant in Aschaffenburg , located at the Bavarian State Harbor on the Main . The operator was E.ON , formerly Bayernwerk .

The plant, which was built in 1951, was only kept as a "cold reserve" from 1997 due to existing overcapacities and lack of profitability and was shut down in 2000. From 2001 the dismantling took place (demolition 2004) except for the 161 meter high chimney , which today serves as a transmission mast for the mobile radio .

In addition to three-phase alternating current with a network frequency of 50  Hz, the power plant also generated single-phase traction current with 16.7 Hz and an electrical output of 150 MW from 1961 . The traction current was conducted to the substation in Mainaschaff via a line with three single-phase systems .

As part of the modernization of the port, a new biomass cogeneration plant was built at the southern end of port basin I.
