The Edéa power plant is a hydropower plant in Edéa , Littoral region , Cameroon , which is located on the Sanaga . The power plant is owned by Eneo also operated and Eneo.
history
In 1948, the company Energie Electrique du Cameroun (ENELCAM) was founded, with the task of building the Edéa power station. The power plant went into operation in 1953 with the first two machines (each with a maximum output of 11 MW ).
From 1955 to 1958, another machine hall (Edéa II) was built, in which six machines with a capacity of 20.8 MW each were installed. An additional machine with an output of 11 MW was installed in the original machine hall (Edéa I). This extension served to supply the ALUCAM aluminum smelter in the immediate vicinity .
From 1966 to 1976 the third machine hall (Edéa III) was built, in which another five machines with a capacity of 20.8 MW each were installed.
power plant
The Edéa power plant has a total of 14 machines and an installed capacity of 264 (or 276) MW . It is the second largest hydropower plant in Cameroon after the Song Loulou power plant.
Three machines in the power plant are Francis turbines , each of which has a maximum output of 16.4 MW. The Andritz AG was founded in 2008 by the then owner AES Sonel asked to renew these three machines. Among other things, the original Kaplan turbines were replaced by Francis turbines, whereby an increase in output of between 33 and 44% could be achieved.
The remaining machines are Kaplan turbines, six of which have a maximum output of 21.9 MW each and the remaining five 20 MW each.
