The Gössendorf power plant is a run-of-river power plant operated by Verbund AG and Energie Steiermark . It is located in the municipality of the Styrian community of Gössendorf above the Mur . The power plant, which went into operation in 2012, has two Kaplan turbines with a total installed capacity of 18  MW . The standard energy capacity is 88.3  GWh of electrical energy per year, which corresponds to the annual consumption of around 23,000 households.

The power plant is only a few kilometers north of the Kalsdorf power plant, which was built in 2013, and a few kilometers south of the city limits of Graz an der Mur. It dams the Mur to around 11.3 m and has a flow rate of 200 m³ of water per second.

Verbund AG and Energie Steiermark shared the construction costs of EUR 86.5 million. The maintenance and restoration of the Mur floodplains was one aspect of building the power plant. The Mur was already regulated towards the end of the 19th century. As part of the power plant construction, an oxbow lake was reactivated and the new local recreation area "Murauen" with a wide range of leisure activities was created. Furthermore, the flood measures for the neighboring communities were improved. This work cost an additional 15 million euros.
