The Ibbenbüren power plant, Block A , was a German hard coal power plant . It was in Ibbenbueren in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . It had an output of 150 megawatts and was operated by RWE from 1967 to 1987 .

history

The power station was mainly supplied with coal from the neighboring Ibbenbüren colliery in Tecklenburger Land . The power plant was to serve as a supplement (3rd expansion stage) of the ballast power plant, which went into operation in 1954, in the immediate vicinity, as its electricity production could not cover the growing electricity demand. The shutdown was completed on December 29, 1987, due to the considerable investment required to continue operating without a time limit, despite the contracts for the purchase of coal until 1994. The boiler house and the turbine hall were demolished at the end of the 1980s. A small part of the connecting structure between the former turbine hall block A and the former turbine hall of the ballast power plant, which still exists today, has been preserved.

The steam supply was ensured by two Benson boilers , each with a steam output of 260 t / h. An air cooling tower was built because of the considerable water requirements of a wet cooling tower . The cooling water, which is warmed up in a condenser by the steam cooling, is cooled by air drafts via cooling fins, similar to the car. These stood in a ring around the natural draft cooling tower . The diameter of the cooling tower was 85 m at a height of 99.5 m.
