The Iskenderun power plant is a hard coal power plant in İskenderun , Turkey that went into operation in 2003 .

It is so far both the largest investment by Steag GmbH and the largest foreign investment in Turkey. Two power plant blocks with an output of 600 megawatts each were installed  .

Steag GmbH financed around a quarter of the USD 1.5 billion investment from its own resources. A further 75% was provided by a bank consortium, led by KfW , Dresdner Bank and WestLB . State guarantees from the Federal Republic of Germany and credit insurance from Germany, Austria and South Africa were made available to secure the capital invested and the bank loans .

The basis of the project is an electricity supply contract for 16 years with the Turkish state energy supply company Türkiye Elektrik Ticaret ve Taahhüt (TETAŞ). The payments are secured by a Turkish state guarantee. In addition, fixed price agreements were concluded with suppliers and insurance companies.

A supply contract for three million TCE of hard coal annually for the entire term of the electricity contract was concluded with Evonik Trading GmbH and Rheinbraun fuel . The coal is procured on the world market. Two to three times a month coal deliveries of 170,000 t and in future max. 240,000 t freighters up to 320 m in length are shipped by sea to Iskenderun Bay. There the coal through a special, floating transshipment facility (will Transshipper ) landed on the water.
