The Transshipper Isken is currently the largest floating unloading system for reloading coal from large bulk carriers into smaller transport ships. The Transshipper was designed in 2000 by abh Ingenieur-Technik for the Oldendorff shipping company and built in 2001/2002 under construction number 0793 at the Remontowa shipyard in Poland . The keel was laid on October 3, 2001, the launch on March 11, 2002. The Transshipper, which was completed in September 2002, was put into operation in 2003. It is used in the Bay of İskenderun (Turkey) to supply the Sugözü coal-fired power station , the port of which is only six meters deep. The coal is delivered by Panamax or Capesize bulk carriers. The handling capacity is around three million tons per year.

The system consists of the 51.8 meter high Transshipper, two barges with self-unloading facilities and two tugs .

Technical specifications

The Transshipper is a catamaran without a drive, on the port side of the deck there are three eccentrically movable Liebherr high-performance cranes with a lifting capacity of 45 tons and a 38 meter radius. The grabs have a capacity of 30 m³. The coals are loaded onto a conveyor belt and then loaded into the barges between the floats via a pouring device. There are several mooring winches on deck for positioning the barge and along the ship to be unloaded . Four large diesel generators with an output of 1320  kVA each are installed for power supply . On the starboard side of the main deck there is accommodation for 42 people, the central control station and parking spaces for three wheel loaders and three excavators. These are needed to completely empty the holds.

The two barges have a load capacity of 10,000 tons each and a draft of 4.95 m. They are equipped with a gravity self-unloading system that transports 2500 tons / hour on a conveyor belt on land. A spray system on board the lighter prevents excessive dust pollution for the environment. The barges are maneuvered to the port by 3500 hp tugs.

The handling capacity of this system is 35–45,000 tons per day. The platform can work up to wind force eight and 2.5 meter high waves. A similar plant, the Transshipper Berau , is in operation in Indonesia .
