The Kaeng Khoi power plant is a combined cycle power plant in Kaeng Khoi County, Saraburi Province , Thailand .
The installed capacity of the power plant is given as 1400 (or 1468 or 1620) MW . The contract to build the power plant was awarded in December 2004. The first block went into operation in May 2007; Unit 2 followed in March 2008. The power plant is owned by Gulf Power Generation Company Limited (GPG) and is also operated by GPG. GPG is a joint venture between Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group; 50%) and J-Power (49%).
Power plant units
The power plant consists of two blocks. The following table gives an overview:
block | unit | Max. Power (MW) | Start of operation | turbine | generator | Steam boiler |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | 280 | 2007 | Alstom | Alstom | Alstom |
2 | 280 | 2007 | Alstom | Alstom | Alstom | |
3 | 250 | 2007 | Alstom | Alstom | ||
2 | 1 | 280 | 2008 | Alstom | Alstom | Alstom |
2 | 280 | 2008 | Alstom | Alstom | Alstom | |
3 | 250 | 2008 | Alstom | Alstom |
The two blocks each consist of two gas turbines and a downstream steam turbine . A waste heat steam generator is connected to each of the two gas turbines ; the waste heat steam generator then supplies the steam turbine. The installed capacity of the two blocks is given as 734 (or 810) MW each.
Others
The cost of the project with 700 (or 800) million USD or 36.1 billion baht specified.
